The 6-Month Catch-Up in a Nutshell....sort of.

Blog Assistant Sophie in High Gear!

When I first had the idea to write a blog, it was for several good reasons and a few not-so-good ones.  I have something worthwhile to say at least to SOMEBODY I was sure, but never in a million years could anybody have told me how difficult this really is.  I’m amazed now at the blogs that come into my email box everyday, faithfully filled with new information.  "How the heck to they do that?” I wondered.  Well, in some cases they have guest writers, lots of them.  In some cases they have other secretarial help, or in other cases like me, it’s just me and a keyboard and a dedicated and devoted dog to keep me company!  Sophie preferring to nap away happily somewhere on/under/across me with not so much as a care whether I was blogging or not, cannot be counted on as viable help.  So it’s me and the keyboard.

And of course, there’s subject matter.  I found it best not to write when I’m in a lower-than-cheerful mood, as that comes across pretty easily, and ultimately, somewhat depressing.  So that took a lot of my writing time off the calendar. Last but not least, I am a proud card-carrying member of Procrastinators Anonymous, a group apparently developed by my own ancestors and carefully handed down to each subsequent generation.  My husband’s family can cook, mine can procrastinate about cooking and order pizza.  My 3 adult children are talented in both realms, cooking and ordering pizza that is!

Yes, it has been a while.  I let my Lucky Bird go last May, which threw me into a very non-writing mood.  While I did regain control of my studio, there was no one to scramble around my feet, and no scolding from a temperamental pigeon.  As far as I know she is doing well, at least that’s what I would like to believe, not having seen any pigeon body parts scattered about the lawn.  I think about her in the sub-zero snap we are currently experiencing, hoping she is in a nice barn warmed by lots of cows or sheep.

Summer came and went, barely a summer here in Wisconsin.  Cool days and nights, Lake Michigan stayed it’s cold frigid wintery self and sundresses stayed packed away.  I wish I could say the same for mosquitos, they were a stellar bunch no matter what the weathe

We moved into fall, a beautiful time here as the leaves begin to turn with the cool nights.  But they got all mixed up because we had cool nights all summer, so some trees lost leaves in August, while others just lost them last week.  Must admit though, last weeks loss of leaves on my Korean Spice Bush was the MOST beautiful shade of Raw Umber I have ever seen.

The end of September brought our 40th Anniversary, which absolutely stuns me that 40 years have come and gone so quickly.  We were fortunate enough to celebrate with the entire family in New Mexico, and share some of our favorite places with them.  It’s an incredibly diverse state in scenery, architecture and art. We had a great time, and were thankful we could all be together.  We were invited to be special guests at the home of a Taos Native American for the San Geronimo Feast Day, a very special experience.

As we moved into fall my son and daughter-in-law prepared to move into their Forever Home, an old 1845 fieldstone home, barn & outbuildings on 9 acres, lovingly named Autumn Farm Sanctuary!  One of their dogs, sweet Sophie, was not taking well to the packing and all that goes with it so she came to stay ay Nana’s house for a while.  Having lost my last dog nearly 2 years ago I was ready to have some four-legged company and we got along famously.  We got a long so well in fact, that Sophie ended up staying on at Nana's permanently!!  My son and his wife love her dearly but said they didn’t have the heart to break us apart, and with two rescued English Bulldogs, a few cats and now some farm animals all plying for attention, they knew Sophie would get more than her fair share here as an only child!  I send them thoughts of gratitude every single day, for Sophie is a unique one-of-a-kind very devoted and loving kind of girl, my new bff!!
